Petting Zoos

Petting zoo includes Ella the Alpaca, Hansel and Gretal the goats,
bunnies to sit in the children’s laps, chickens, and ducks. Our petting
zoo is VERY unique. We work with the children, show them how to hold
bunnies, how to hold chickens, and we help them hand-lead our Alpaca.

Event Guidelines for Pony Rides & Petting Zoos

If we can have the opportunity to present
all these guidelines to the kids, that would be VERY helpful for
everyone and keep the rides at a quicker pace so all the kids get more
riding time.  We understand that this is not always possible. Please be sure that everyone wears shoes and washes their hands after touching the animals. As a precaution, it is always best to wash your hands even though our animals are clean, healthy, and up to date on their vaccinations.

Cancellation Policy

We
come rain or shine. The ponies don’t care if it’s raining and neither
will the kids when they are on the ponies. So put on the rain jackets
and keep the fun going! I would hate to be the parent that told the kids
the ponies weren’t coming… Should there be a need for us to cancel
due to a catastrophic pony illness ( making all our ponies unavailable)
or some other unlikely event we will refund your money and give you a
credit for a discounted Pony Party.

If you
must cancel within one week of the party we request that you reschedule
your party for a later date in addition to a $50 cancellation fee.

Right to Refuse Service:

We
reserve the right to refuse service in the highly unlikely event we
find a situation dangerous to the kids or our ponies. Your safety is
important to us. If this event or circumstance is beyond your control we
will be delighted to refund your deposit.

Dog Policy Rules:

Please
keep all dogs locked up and away from the animals or our handlers and
helpers.  Although our ponies and animals are use to dogs on our ranch,
they are not use to other people’s dogs.  It can be very dangerous for
everyone if a pony gets spooked by a dog.  Dogs are carnivores and
horses are herbivores.  Please understand that this can be a very
dangerous situation.  Also, dogs can startle our petting zoo animals
which can result in injuries to our animals and the children.  So it is
important to tell all your guest not to bring their dogs and for any
dogs that you own to be locked up no matter how nice they are 🙂  We
really appreciate your cooperation with this serious and potentially
hazardous situation.

Weight Limits and Ages:

Please
see our weight limits above
for each pony.  Please choose the pony according to what your needs are
for weight limits.  If children need assistance in getting on and off
the ponies, we ask that the parents or a designated helper(s) from your
group help in getting children off and on the ponies.  We don’t mind
lifting a few kids but it can be difficult for us to lift 15+ kids 30 to
45 times (guess we can skip the gym LOL).  We do bring a scale to the
party and ask that all kids/adults stand on the scale before mounting
the ponys.  Please understand that this is for safety of our ponys and
the rider.  Children between the ages of 2 and 3 may
need assistance from their parents or other adult from your group.
Children under the age of 2 will definitely need some extra hands from
Mom or Dad or a helper from your group.

Before and After Your Party:

We
will arrive early at your party to allow us enough time to set up so
that we can be ready for you when the party begins.  After your event,
we may need to leave promptly in order to get to another event right
after yours.  In addition, our animals will want to get home once they
are loaded up.  So, it is important that we are not blocked in by any of
your guests during the party.  While we are setting up, we understand
that everyone is excited to see the animals, but we ask that everyone
stay away from the animals until we are ready. This is for the safety of
you, your guests, your family, and the animals.

Pony Safety:

Ponies can walk on dirt, asphalt, concrete, grass, non-slippery
or wet pavement, and other suitable walking areas.  Ponies cannot walk
on rocks, wet asphalt, or deep sand.  Please let us know if there will
be wet bathing suits at your party so that we can properly protect our
saddles.  We need to have easy access to water for our ponies.  If there
will be no water available, please let us know so that we can bring
water with us.  If the ponies are worked continuously for an hour, they
will need a ten minute break in between hours.

Please
understand that we need to take time to educate each child before
mounting the ponies.  You can help with cutting this time down by
letting the kids know the following:

  • No
yelling, smacking, hitting, running around, screaming, balloons, or
toys, food or other dangerous behaviors on or directly around the
    ponies.
  • We try to make
it fun for the kids even while waiting for the ride.  That is why we
organize kids into riding groups so that no one is standing too long in a
line, but even with that, there will be some line time, so please
explain to the kids that they may have to wait a bit for a ride.
  • No
children are allowed to walk next to the pony when other children are
riding, only adults/guardians/parents may walk along side the pony but
not in front or behind the ponys.
  • All
riders must hold the horn on the saddle at all times.  All though the
kids may want to pet the pony while riding and pretend they are Wild
West Bill on the Pony and wave their arms, we need them to stay put and
    safe 🙂
  • We walk our ponies
at a slow, steady, safe speed.  Some kids want to go faster but that is
not something we can accommodate at a party.  So, please let the
children know that it is important to not kick the ponys or kiss or
    cluck them to go.
  • Our
ponies are really use to kids and all the noises that come with being
kids, but it is important to understand that all the ponys need to be
treated with the utmost love and gentleness.
  • Most
important ****No children must ever walk behind the ponies****  Although
our ponies are really safe and don’t kick out, sometimes there could be
a fly bothering the pony or the pony may not know that a small child is
behind them and then accidently kick them.

Petting Zoo Guidelines:

We have a few requirements for our petting zoo:

  • We need about a 12′ x 12′ area to set up our fencing.
  • We
would prefer to set up on grass or dirt for the comfort of the animals,
but we can accomodate driveways, sidewalks, or concrete/pavement.
Please let us know if that is the case so that we can bring hay to put
down (we will clean up the hay).  Sharp rocks is not okay for the
    animals or the kids.
  • Please let us know if we need to bring shade for the animals or if we can set up under a tree during the warmer months.
  • If
animals are going on chemically treated grass, please do not treat the
grass within two weeks of us setting up for the safety of the animals
    and the children.
  • We
need to have access and be close to a water hose/faucet.  Please show
us at arrival where the water is, especially during the hotter months.
If there is no water available, please let us know prior to our arrival
so that we can come prepared with water for our animals.
  • Although
we bring clean and healthy animals to our zoo, it is important that the
children use our wash stations that we provide after visiting the
    petting zoo.

Petting Zoo Rules to Follow:

Our
animals are like our children to us and we are very concerned about how
they are handled.  It is important that children treat the animals
properly.  We will provide an experienced handler in the animal area to
assist children with the animals.  We do not allow more than two
children at a time in the petting zoo area.  In order to keep our
animals well behaved, we do not allow the children to feed them as this
can encourage some bad manners on behalf of the the animals.  If there
are any children who can not follow handling rules, they will be asked
to leave the petting area.  We find that 99.9% of kids are great with
animals!  Our number one rule is to approach all our animals from a
place of love and respect.
